Sequel Ortho is proud to announce that Fox Valley Orthopedics is expanding its team of specialists with three new surgeons bringing advanced training, innovative techniques and a shared commitment to personalized patient care.
Dr. Nicholas Pagani, a fellowship-trained hip and knee replacement surgeon, began seeing patients in early September, followed by shoulder and elbow specialist Dr. Rishi Chatterji and spine surgeon Dr. Jake Portillo.
Their addition strengthens the depth of expertise available at Fox Valley Orthopedics and reflects Sequel Ortho’s commitment to supporting its partner practices as they meet the evolving orthopedic needs of the communities they serve.
Advancing Hip & Knee Replacement with Dr. Nicholas Pagani
After spending the past decade practicing in Boston, Dr. Nicholas Pagani is bringing his experience in advanced hip and knee replacement techniques to Fox Valley Orthopedics. He was drawn to FVO by its longstanding reputation for orthopedic care and its commitment to staying at the forefront of the field while prioritizing patient safety and outcomes.
His practice focuses on hip and knee replacement, an area that has changed significantly in recent years. Today, improved pain management and peri-operative care allow many joint replacement patients to return home the same day as their procedure. Dr. Pagani is also enthusiastic about technologies such as AI-supported computer navigation for hip replacement and robotic-assisted knee replacement.
“I hope every patient feels as though I understand them as a person and appreciate their specific goals,” Dr. Pagani said.
As he joins FVO, Dr. Pagani is looking forward to becoming part of the community and continuing to build on the standard of care patients have come to expect.
Dr. Rishi Chatterji Brings Specialized Shoulder & Elbow Care
Dr. Chatterji has trained across the country, including in Philadelphia, Michigan and Florida. Growing up in the area, he was already familiar with FVO’s reputation and saw an opportunity to return to the Chicago suburbs while contributing his specialized shoulder and elbow expertise to the community.
Dr. Chatterji takes a conservative-first approach whenever possible. Physical therapy, nutrition and other nonsurgical options can play an important role in recovery, with surgery considered based on the patient’s condition, goals and response to treatment.
When surgery is appropriate, he brings experience with some of the latest advances in orthopedic care, including virtual planning for shoulder replacement and augmented reality to assist with implant positioning. He is also interested in emerging biologic technologies designed to support rotator cuff healing.
“I hope that each patient feels fully heard by their physician,” he said, “and that they feel that they are equipped with all the information they need to understand their diagnosis and treatment options.”
Dr. Jake Portillo Expands Non-Surgical Spine and Musculoskeletal Care
Dr. Jake Portillo joins Fox Valley Orthopedics as a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician specializing in interventional spine and musculoskeletal medicine. His expertise includes non-surgical treatment for spine and musculoskeletal conditions, with a focus on helping patients reduce pain, restore function and return to the activities that matter to them.
Dr. Portillo completed his residency at Northwestern Medicine’s Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital and an Interventional Spine & Musculoskeletal Medicine Fellowship at the Jordan-Young Institute.
His practice incorporates advanced, minimally invasive treatment options including fluoroscopic-guided spine procedures, ultrasound-guided joint and soft tissue injections and regenerative medicine treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
With an evidence-based, patient-centered approach, Dr. Portillo adds another dimension of specialized expertise to the FVO team and expands the non-surgical options available to patients with spine and musculoskeletal conditions. He is deeply committed to both continuous learning and wellness, and he utilizes a holistic approach to helping patients reach their goals.

Adding Dr. Pagani, Dr. Chatterji and Dr. Portillo gives Fox Valley Orthopedics patients greater access to physicians whose practices are deeply focused on specific areas of the body.
